- players: The countries involved in the battle were Japan and the United States. Americans were commanded by Lieutenant General Simon Bolivar and the japanese was commanded by General Mitsuru Ushijima
- victory/outcome: The united states won the battle. It was the largest battle of the Pacific war with over 38,000 Americans wounded and 12,000 killed or missing, over 107,000 Japanese and Okinawan draftees killed, and around 100,000 Okinawan civilians who perished.
- purpose: Okinawa was part of the americans 3 point plan to winning the war, Americans wanted to be in control of the 4 airfields on the island. "Operation Iceberg"
- importance: More ships were used, more troops sent out, more supplies transported, more bombs dropped, and more naval guns fired against shore targets than any of the other operations in the Pacific War. More people died during the Battle of Okinawa than those killed during the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
